Adventures by the Sea (Pt 1)

Part 2   Part 3   Photo Gallery

First escapade of the summer and where does this year take me? The tropical shores of Boracay Island, Aklan! We had a four-night stay here from April 16 to 19 and it was truly a great adventure. So we left our home en route to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at around 7:30, and due to heavy traffic and the really loooong line outside NAIA, we were able to enter the airport at around 8:15, and our flight was at 9!! Luckily our flight was delayed a bit so we had time to catch up haha. The flight from Manila to Caticlan, Aklan is 55 minutes. The plane left at around 10 am, so we arrived at 11 am in Boracay Airport.

From Boracay Airport, we had a van waiting for us courtesy of Discovery Shores (the resort where we stayed). We had a 5 minute ride to the pier. When we got to the pier, there was a motor boat (also courtesy of Discovery Shores) waiting for us in order to get to Boracay Island.

The ride lasted around 10 minutes, and it was cool to see the waves and the different boats at the sea. We were also given complimentary food and water by the assistants at the boat. When we reached the island, there was another van waiting for us to take us to Discovery Shores. It was a 20-minute ride, and soon enough, we arrived at our destination!

We were greeted by the kindest and most hospitable staff that I ever came across with, and since our room wasn’t ready yet, we were escorted to the lounge and waited there. Unfortunately, we didn’t want the room given to us since it was far away from the beach, and it was the only one available that day. However, the kind staff accommodated us by offering us to switch rooms the next day, which we agreed to. Then we decided to eat lunch (Discovery Shores has delicious meals!) then checked out our room.

I tried paddle boarding, which involves sitting, kneeling, or standing on a surf board and maneuvering your way through the water by using a paddle. I really thought it was cool and I saw a lot of people doing it, so I tried it for myself. The initial rate offered to me was Php500 for an hour, but I only wanted to try it for 30 minutes, so I was able to bargain it for Php200 for 30 minutes.

Day 1

I got a little nervous at first, since it was already 5 in the afternoon and the waves were pretty big, leading the board to become really unstable. So I tried to do it sitting down at first. After 5 minutes, I was already kneeling at the board, but then I really wanted to do it standing up so I did. I tried to balance myself and soon enough, I was paddling away towards the deep part of the sea. I was proud that I managed to maintain my balance, and I only fell once when I was already about to reach the sand! I fell at the really shallow part, and I was laughing because I had a lot of fun doing it (even though I was able to drink salt water at the end of my paddle board session haha)

A day in Boracay wouldn’t be complete without watching the sun set by the beach! It is one of the most mesmerizing views you could ever see.

Day 1 ended for us when we ate dinner by the beach and ordered food from Discovery Shores!! It was really good and we really deserved the meal after a long day. xx

  1. I have serious holiday envy! Being from Scotland you can only imagine how rubbish our weather is. Well done for paddle boarding, I’ve heard its really hard to find your balance and stay afloat. The food looks so delicious, and on the beach, I can only imagine the beautiful view you had. Amazing post 🙂

  2. This adventure looks like it got started off on the right foot! I have always wanted to paddle board and I think you have convinced me to try next time I have the opportunity! The food also looked spectacular especially after a long day!

  3. Three of your photos are not showing up. However the ones that are showing up all look very nice! I have been wanting to try paddle boarding. It looks like much fun!

  4. Not sure why, but not all the pictures loaded for me. From what I did see, beautiful photos!! Paddle boating looks like fun 🙂

  5. I would definitely be a little nervous too on the paddle board at that time with a few waves, I can’t help but wonder what will be beneath me in the water! What a fab experience you seem to have had though!

  6. I really enjoy paddle boarding and find that it is a great activity when you are visiting a new location. A great view from in the water…as long as you don’t fall in! It looks like you had a great visit.

  7. My computer didn’t load most of the pictures, but I googgled the areas. 🙂 Very beautiful!

  8. I am sure you had a great time at the resort and the island, would have loved to see some pictures of the resort but can’t see those (some glitch I think). Kudos for trying out surfing, I hope I muster the courage to do the same in future.
