Taking Chances

Hey guys! I just wanted to share with you all the speech that I wrote for our English class. I think I made this a couple of months ago, and as you can notice it’s about TFIOS 🙂

Life as we know it is temporary and uncertain. The reality of death is inevitable to all of us but it becomes imminently apparent to those who are afflicted with life-threatening illnesses. This is what the main characters featured in the book novel/movie “The Fault in Our Stars” has dealt with. The story is about two cancer patients named Hazel and Gus who are forced to confront death at an early age but still fell madly in love with each other.  Given the circumstances, it is destined that either one of them will not survive for long and will eventually succumb to death but they still chose to take a risk and give love a chance despite the heartbreak and pain it will cause them. Hazel and Gus’ love story shows that love is infinite and has no boundaries. It can overcome anything even the hardest of situations. It tells us that what gives meaning in our lives is not how long we live on this earth or how successful we have become but the relationships we have formed. When we die, our loved ones will carry on the shared moments and beautiful memories we have left behind. Falling in love is a beautiful thing. It is a wonderful blessing from above. It is about taking chances. We will not be able to experience love if we are too afraid to leap ahead and get hurt in the process. Like Hazel and Gus, we should also take a risk, give and manifest our love to the people we care about. In the end, it feels good to love and be loved in return rather than not to have loved at all. Love does not only apply to people in relationships. We can experience love too, through our families, classmates, teachers and friends. We are fortunate to be able to lead normal and healthy lives. We should make use of each waking day as an opportunity to profess and show how much we love the people around us who continuously touched our hearts and become constant reminders of God’s eternal love for us. We will never know what is written in our stars because only God knows of our destiny. But God has blessed us with three great gifts…faith, hope and love and the greatest of them all is LOVE.
