Filipino Bookworms Meet Their Fave Authors

Ransom, Tahereh and Veronica

Ransom Riggs, Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi are three of the New York Times Best Selling Authors and they had the opportunity to meet their crazed Filipino fans in Manila last April 26 and in Cebu the next day for a book signing event hosted by National Bookstore. Me being a fan of these 3 authors went to the April 26 book signing and it is an experience I’ll never forget.

The Manila book signing was held at the Activity Center in the Glorietta Mall. I arrived at the venue at around 11 am, despite the event scheduled to start at 2 pm. Little did I know that there were already a thousand people lined up! I was so anxious that I might not get a slot at the event but lucky for me, I still did. Even if I was number 1289 in line. While waiting for Mafi, Riggs and Rossi I took the time to go around the mall and make new friends with my fellow bookworms who went to the signing as well. And finally, our 3 favorite authors arrived at around 3 pm and the 2000 people in Glorietta went wild. The authors did a short interview and afterwards, the signing already started! Since I was 1289 I got up to meet them at already 8 pm, but it was still very memorable for me and now I shall tell you my experience with each author.

1. Tahereh Mafi

Me with Tahereh

Tahereh is the author of the Shatter Me Series (Shatter Me, Unravel Me, Unite Me, Ignite Me). Her series focuses on Juliette Ferrars, a young girl with a lethal powerful touch. As she learns to unleash the full potential of her powers, obstacles get in her way as she faces the people who want her for her powers, the big war coming, fitting into society and choosing between two great guys-Adam Kent and Aaron Wanrer. A great shattering series filled with love, war and passion, Tahereh takes young adult books to a whole new level and you will really stay up all night reading her books magnificent work. Tahereh was the first author I went to for the signing and here’s my conversation with her:
Me: Hi Tahereh!
T: Hi!
Me: I really think Shatter Me’s the best trilogy ever. (I wasn’t kidding when I said this btw)
T: Aw thank you so much!
Me: I really love it ,like seriously.
T: Thank you!
Me: Adam or Warner?
T: Team Juliette!
Me: Yeah go Juliette! Hahaha
T: Hahaha! Thank you so much!

2. Veronica Rossi

Me with Veronica

Veronica is known for creating the magical world of Dwellers and Tiders in the Under The Never Sky Trilogy (Under The Never Sky, Through the Ever Night, Into the Still Blue). The story is written in the perspective of Aria and Perry, the book’s main protagonists who belong to separate worlds, Aria a Dweller and Perry a Tider. A story filled with fantasy, romance and adventure, Veronica’s series is a must read and her characters reflect the different kinds of people nowadags such as Aria who is trying to figure out who she is, Brooke seeking out true love, and of course a trilogy cannot be complete without cute guys, in this case, the very lovable best friends Perry and Roar. Here’s my convo with Veronica:
Me: Hi Veronica!
V: Hi! How are you?
Me: I’m really good! Are you enjoying Manila?
V: Yes! So much! Are you having a great time?
Me: Yeah!
V: Good!
Me: I waited for around 10 hours just to meet you!
V: Wow! Thank you so much! Oh my god.
Me: So…do you like Perry or Roar?
V: Are you trying to kill me or something with that question? Haha..Well let me ask you..who would you pick?
Me: Both! Haha
V: See! Haha see what I’m saying! It’s too hard to pick! (hands over my books) Here you go!
Me: I really hope there’s a movie!
V: Oh me too! Cross your fingers!
Me: Fingers crossed! Thank you!
V: Bye!
Me: Bye!

3. Ransom Riggs

Me with Ransom Riggs

Ransom Riggs is the author of the very famous Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City). What’s cool about his novels is that his books are accompanied by vintage photographs that he has collected through the years and his story is based from those pictures. It is really a must read especially since the third book is set to be released in 2015. Oh! And they’re currently casting for the main character Jacob now, so the first movie might come out next year as well. Now here’s my sadly short convo with Ransom (since there were too many people already and the events staff told me to go huhu).
Me: Hi Ransom!
R: Hey!
Me: I’m such a huge fan of you!
R: Oh thanks! You’re nice!
Me: Thank you!
R: Nice to meet you!
Me: Nice to meet you too!

So there you have it! This concludes my book signing experience! (Which was my first btw) sad that these guys left already, but how I wish they’ll come back in the future, and maybe bring along some other authors perphaps? *cough* John *cough* Green *cough* Cassandra *cough* Clare *cough* Rainbow *cough* Rowell *cough*
